Portland Sea Dogs News Release

New Britain, Connecticut- The New Britain Rock Cats took advantage of some timely offense, sweeping both games in a series-opening doubleheader against the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday night. The Sea Dogs fell 2-0 in Game One and 5-3 in Game Two. Michael Hollimon went a combined 3-for-6 in the two games with 3 RBI, including a two-run home run in the second game. The sweep extends Portland's losing streak to four straight. The Sea Dogs have also lost ten straight games away from Hadlock Field, matching the longest streak in franchise history.

Chris Balcom-Miller (0-1) made his debut for the Sea Dogs in Game One. The righty recorded the first complete game of the season for Portland. Balcom-Miller threw all six innings in the 2-0 loss. He allowed just seven hits and a walk, while striking out four. He was called up from Advanced-A Salem earlier on Tuesday. Balcom-Miller had a 3-1 record over seven starts with Salem. The complete game was the first for the Sea Dogs since 2009, when Felix Doubront went all seven innings as part of a doubleheader against New Britain.

Both runs for the Rock Cats in Game One came with two outs. Evan Bigley ripped an RBI double to score Steve Singleton in the first inning. Hollimon added the insurance run in the sixth on a two-out RBI single. Portland's best chance came against Brett Jacobson (2-0) in the top of the first inning. The Sea Dogs loaded the bases with only one out, but Tim Federowicz grounded into a double play, ending the threat. Jon Hee and Alex Hassan combined to go 3-for-3 and reached all six times in the first game. Hassan finished the doubleheader 2-for-3 with five walks.

Portland jumped out to a 1-0 lead in Game Two on Jeremy Hazelbaker's RBI infield single in the second inning. However, the Rock Cats came right back with Hollimon's two-run homer off Miguel Gonzalez (0-3) in the bottom half of the inning. Tony Davis (1-0) pitched three and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief of Blake Martin to pick up the win in the second game for New Britain. The Sea Dogs got the tying run into scoring position with two outs after an RBI double by Chih-Hsien Chiang. However, Michael Tarsi would get pinch-hitter Tim Federowicz to fly out, ending the game.

The Sea Dogs and Rock Cats will meet tomorrow night in the third of the four-game series. Portland wraps things up in New Britain with an early 10:35 AM start time on Thursday. The team then moves to Altoona for its first series against a team from the Western Division. The Sea Dogs will celebrate Good Neighbor Night, sponsored by State Farm Insurance on Wednesday, June 8th. For tickets, log on to www.seadogs.com or call 207-879-9500.
