Clinton LumberKings News Release

Davenport, IA - The Clinton LumberKings took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, battled back from a 6-3 deficit and ultimately lost as Cody Stanley doubled and scored on left-hander Nate Reed's wild pitch in the sixth inning to give the Quad Cities River Bandits a 7-5 lead and eventual 7-6 win Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Stefen Romero sent a drive to right-center with the tying run on base in the top of the ninth, but centerfielder Nick Longmire made a shoestring catch to end the game.

First-inning walks by Robbie Anston and Tim Morris set the stage for Clinton's three-run frame against left-hander Anthony Ferrara. Romero sent a bouncer past second-baseman Starlin Rodriguez for an error that scored Anston and Mickey Wiswall lined an inside-out single to left to score Morris and Romero for a 3-0 lead.

The Bandits then scored six unanswered runs off right-hander George Mieses (L, 1-3) to take a 6-3 lead. Jonathan Rodriguez doubled twice, driving in Longmire in the third and plating both Michael Swinson and Stanley in the fourth. Yunior Castillo also doubled home a run and Starlin Rodriguez added an RBI single.

The Kings came back from that 6-3 deficit, cutting the Quad Cities' lead to 6-5 in the fifth. Shaver Hansen singled off left-hander Justin Wright, stole second and scored on a triple down the right-field line by Romero. Wiswall then added his third RBI, singling to center to drive in Romero. Kalian Sams would look at a called strike three, stranding Wiswall to end the inning.

Quad Cities extended the lead to 7-5 against Reed in the sixth as Longmire walked and Stanley

doubled off the right-field fence. An intentional walk loaded the bases and Packy Elkins grounded into a fielder's choice as Wiswall threw home to erase Longmire. As Reed attempted to strand runners at every base, he issued a wild pitch that kicked to the right of catcher Carlton Tanabe. Tanabe pounced on it quickly and tossed to Reed who put down the tag in time on Stanley, but the ball dropped from his glove as he tripped over Stanley changing home plate umpire Alex Ransom's call from out to safe.

Clinton scored in the eighth as Romero reached on Elkins' fielding error and scored on a pinch-hit RBI single by Carlos Ramirez. Tanabe then reached on an infield single with two outs, but Jabari Blash was thrown out trying to score the tying run,

Morris reached on a fielder's choice with two outs in the ninth, but Romero's liner to right-center couldn't find the gap as the LumberKings lost by a mere run for the second-straight night. Bandits' right-hander Keith Butler (S, 4) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings for his second save in as many nights. Wright (W, 2-0) ended up with the win despite two runs over 3.0 innings.

Wiswall finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and Romero finished 2-for-5 with the triple, three runs scored and an RBI. Rodriguez of Quad Cities plated three RBI on 2-for-2 hitting, doubling twice.

The LumberKings (9-25) wrap up the three-game series tomorrow night against the River Bandits (16-17), first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Clinton right-hander Brandon Maurer (1-2, 3.00) goes up against Quad Cities' left-hander Kevin Siegrist (4-1, 1.88).
