May 10, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs' pitching staff has stepped-up the battle against cancer with the creation of "Mustache May" to benefit the Maine Children's Cancer Program. The Sea Dogs' pitching staff has agreed to grow mustaches for the month of May culminating with a Mustache Day at the ballpark on May 29th. Fans are asked to make a pledge to their favorite Sea Dog that they would like to see grow a mustache with the money being donated to the Maine Children's Cancer Program.

In addition to the pitchers, also participating in "Mustache May" is pitching coach Bob Kipper, all three catchers; Tim Federowicz, Ryan Lavarnway, and Will Vazquez, infielder Ryan Dent, Athletic Trainers Paul Buchheit and Chris Jones, Coach Mickey Jiang, the Voice of the Portland Sea Dogs Mike Antonellis and Slugger the Sea Dog.

All pledges go directly to the Maine Children's Cancer Program and come with a ticket to the May 29th Sea Dogs game scheduled for 1:00 PM against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees). Prior to the game, fans that have made a pledge will be permitted to go on to the field to have their picture taken with the player in which they donated.

An individual pledge of $15.00 gets you one ticket to the May 29th game and the opportunity to have your picture taken with the player you pledged to grow a mustache. A family donation of $50.00 gets you five tickets to the May 29th game and a family picture with your selected player. A pledge of $100.00 or more earns you all of the above benefits plus a 2011 team autographed baseball.

Pledges can be made online at www.seadogs.com or by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500.

The first 500 fans to enter the ballpark on May 29th will receive their very own fake mustache.

The Maine Children's Cancer Program is the official charity of the Portland Sea Dogs. The Sea Dogs' Strike Out Cancer in Kids Program raises around $250,000.00 annually and has raised over $4 million since its inception in 1995.
