Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

Big Brothers of Rhode Island will present its 34th Annual Robert "Cy" Killian Humanitarian Award to Pawtucket Red Sox President Michael A. Tamburro at a dinner and ceremony to be held at the Providence Marriott on Thursday, May 19, 2011. The organization chose to celebrate Mr. Tamburro in recognition of the extraordinary generosity and dedication that he has shown Big Brothers of Rhode Island.

Michael Tamburro has contributed abundant support for the agency's work on behalf of fatherless boys as an active member of the Big Brothers of Rhode Island Advisory Board. He has hosted twenty-two Big Brother Nights at McCoy Stadium, raising funds and awareness for the organization's mentoring programs. Mr. Tamburro welcomed Big and Little Brothers to be engaged in these events; he invited them to march onto the field for the opening ceremonies and each year asked a Little Brother to throw out the first pitch. Mr. Tamburro is hopeful that with this dinner he can promote awareness of the organization's mentoring programs, recruit many new volunteer Big Brothers and raise much-needed funds for the agency.

Radio and television personality, Steve McDonald will join Big Brothers of Rhode Island as toastmaster for the event. Bob Montgomery, former catcher for the Boston Red Sox will be the presenter. Speakers will also include The Honorable Laureen A. D'Ambra, Associate Justice of the Rhode Island Family Court, The Most Reverend Robert E. Mulvee, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Providence, and Richard P. Smith, past state deputy of the Knights of Columbus. "Mr. Deep Positivity" James McBride will rap "The Big Brother Song," and Danielle J. Lima will sing the National Anthem.

Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person. The dinner is open to the public. Ticket requests should be directed to Val Sinesi at (401) 432-9955. All proceeds benefit Big Brothers of Rhode Island, Inc., a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
