Stingrays Receive Connelly from Elmira

November 4, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL) South Carolina Stingrays

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that the team has acquired goaltender Shane Connelly from the Elmira Jackals in exchange for future considerations.

Connelly, 23, returns to the Stingrays after appearing in two games with the Jackals going 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage. Last season, the Cheltenham, PA native appeared in 26 games with the Stingrays earning a 13-7-5 record, 2.82 GAA and .901 save percentage. While with the Stingrays, Connelly tied an ECHL record with three-straight shutouts from February 19-21 and was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week for February 15-21.

Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-9, 177-pound goaltender spent four years at the University of Wisconsin going 41-36-11 in 90 games with a 2.34 goals-against average and .913 save percentage. During his first two seasons with the Badgers, Connelly backed up Hobey Baker finalist and current Ottawa Senators goaltender Brian Elliot and was a member of the 2006 NCAA championship team.
