Alaska Aces News Release
A pair of goals from Chris Langkow weren't enough for the Aces, as they narrowly fell to the Bakersfield Condors 5-4 on Wednesday night, snapping their winning streak at four games. Pascal Morency had a hat trick for the Condors in the win. The Aces fell to 5-2 on the season, and will continue their five-game road trip on Thursday with their first visit to play the Ontario Reign at 6:00pm AKST. All games can be heard on the radio home of Aces hockey, NewsTalk 750AM KFQD. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
Gerald Coleman continued his brilliant play early in the hockey game, robbing Jean-Marc Beaudoin on three point blank chances, and stoning the Condors through the opening frame. Brandon Gentile then broke a scoreless tie late in the game with a slap shot goal from the left point at 18:09. The Aces outshot the Condors 13-7 in the frame, and took a 1-0 lead into the locker room after one period of play.
Early in the second period, the Aces shutout streak was snapped at 163:05, and the Condors didn't slow down after one. Pascal Morency scored on a two-on-one rush into the zone just 15 seconds into the second period. At 1:20 Rylan Kaip scored on a rebound to give Bakersfield their first lead at 2-1. Only 16 seconds after that, the Condors finished their three-goal flurry when Joey Ryan backhanded a rebound into the net to make it 3-1. The Condors scored three goals in 81 seconds. The Aces got back within a goal when Chris Langkow scored on a deflection at 5:22 to make it 3-2 Condors. Bakersfield got a late goal when Morency scored on a one-timer off a face-off at 18:25 to reclaim the Condors two-goal lead.
In the third period, the Aces got within one again on another Langkow goal at 10:18. The Aces had a 41 second two-man advantage, but could not find the equalizer. After Morency's third goal into an empty net, at 18:48, the Aces again pulled their goaltender, and Scott Howes brought Alaska back within a goal. The Aces nearly tied the score in the final seconds with an extra attacker, but goaltender Josh Tordjman hung on for the Condors win.
Coleman (4-2) took the loss with 16 saves on 20 shots. Tordjman (3-2) earned the win, with 29 saves on 33 shots. The Aces power play went 1-7, while the Condors went 0-2. The Aces outshot the Condors 33-21.
The Aces will continue their five-game road trip on Wednesday at Bakersfield at 6:00pm AKST. All games can be heard on the radio home of Aces hockey, NewsTalk 750AM KFQD. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
