Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (29-33; 65-66) received home runs from K.C. Hobson, Michael Crouse, and Kevin Ahrens on their way to overpowering the Dayton Dragons (19-42; 49-81), 8-3, on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

With the win, the Lugnuts remained four games behind the West Michigan Whitecaps for the Eastern Division's final playoff spot.

Lansing improved to 13-4 against the Dragons in the season series.

Hobson's homer against Dayton starter Tim Crabbe (3-7), a liner to right-center, broke a scoreless deadlock in the fourth.

The Dragons tied the score at 1-1 in the sixth, but Crouse quickly untied matters with a three-run homer down the left field line.

Ahrens's two-run homer in the seventh added a comfortable share of insurance, with the third baseman tossing in an RBI single an inning later to finish off the Lugnuts' scoring.

Dayton tallied twice in the ninth against Brian Slover, but the rally proved to be too little, too late.

Nuts starter Dave Sever worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing only an unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts in a no-decision. Matt Wright (4-2) worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to grab the win.

Lansing right-hander Matt Fields (5-7, 3.96) heads to the mound at 7:05 p.m. on Monday night against Dayton right-hander Daniel Corcino (1-1, 2.95) in the third game in the four-game series.

Tickets to all Lugnuts home games are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
