Normal CornBelters News Release
Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, have teamed up with local businesses and individuals that have sponsored tickets which have been distributed to area veteran and active service men and women. The Belters and these sponsors will come together to host the inaugural Armed Forces Night event on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 7:00PM (with gates opening at 6:00PM). Along with the commemoration of area veterans and current service men and women, the Belters anticipate a dazzling night for these admirable men and women.
This event will be one of the area's largest tributes to those who have both put their lives on the line and current active military that help protect our freedom as Americans. The entire game will be themed around patriotism as the Corn Crib celebrates a night of reflection. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive the inaugural CornBelters baseball card team set sponsored by Disabled American Veterans. On the field, the National Anthem ceremony will include a marvelous color guard presented by VFW Post #454, DAV Chapter 60, and DAV Chapter 50 featuring each cadence from the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, and Air Force. The CornBelters will also showcase the Fifty American Flags Living Memorial. This inspirational display will encourage us to remember the precious symbol of our flag, serving as a reminder of the struggle and hard work that have made our country what it is today.
The CornBelters organization would like to graciously thank the generous sponsors of this first annual event: Pepsi; Town of Normal; Sodexo; Local Boyzz Trucking; Often Running/Vitesse Cycle Shop; alphagraphics; Friends of the Normal CornBelters; Country Financial; Millennium Pain Center; Rosati's; Bloomington-Normal Hotel and Lodging Association; Casey's General Store; Representative Dan Brady; Kulb, Chalian & Leak Urology; JULIE Inc.; Bridgestone/Firestone; Merrill Lynch; and Afni. Thanks to the generosity of our local businesses, the CornBelters anticipate the attendance of over 1500 veterans, as well as currently active men and women and their families.
Another special thank you goes to those who have helped get tickets distributed to these men and women in our area, including the Disabled American Veterans Association, Veterans Assistance Commission, VFW 454, American Legion District 17, the Armed Forces Recruiting Office, and the Illinois Department of Employment Security. There are still a very limited number of sponsored tickets available for walk-up at the CornBelters Box Office. These tickets will be distributed to veterans, current military, and their families on a first come, first serve basis.
The Niblet - On Friday, August 13, the CornBelters will host a "State Farm Legends Reception" at the new Marriott in uptown Normal.
