Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

Toledo scored four runs in the third inning off lefty starter Kris Johnson to pull away from Pawtucket in a 7-1 victory in front of 6,217 Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium.

The big hit in the deciding third inning was a three-run, bases-clearing triple by Mud Hens' right fielder Ben Guez. With two outs, Johnson hit Wilkin Ramirez to load the bases and bring up Guez. Guez ripped a ball over the head of PawSox center fielder Ryan Kalish that caromed off the wall just to the left of the 400-foot marker in center. The center fielder's second triple of the season scored Scott Sizemore, Jeff Frazier and Ramirez to make it a 4-0 game and entrench Toledo to a lead from which they would not look back.

Earlier in the inning the left fielder Frazier dropped a single in front of Kalish to score Robinson Diaz from third base and get Toledo the 1-0 lead. A seventh inning solo home run by Scott Sizemore and a two-run, no-doubt blast by Frazier- good for his twentieth on the year- capped off the scoring for Toledo. Frazier is alone in second place in the International League home run race, trailing Durham's Dan Johnson for first place by five.

PawSox' starter Johnson hit the one speed-bump in the third inning and otherwise shut down the Mud Hens' lineup in his outing. Over six innings of work, Johnson gave up four runs and seven hits. He struck out four and walked two in picking up the loss and dropping his record to 4-8 on the season.

Picking up the win for Toledo was starting pitcher Gilbert De La Vera in his first start in triple-A this season. In collecting his first career triple-A win, De La Vega gave up one run on six hits and struck out five in 5.1 innings of work. The lone run De La Vera surrendered was on a double up the left centerfield gap by Aaron Bates to score Niuman Romero in the third inning.

The PawSox continue the four-game series with a matinee against the Mud Hens Wednesday. The game is scheduled to have a 12:05 p.m. first pitch and will pit Pawtucket's Fabio Castro (4-6, 6.05 ERA) against Toledo's Scot Drucker (2-4, 5.80 ERA).
