Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Gwinnett Braves lost to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 6-1 Tuesday at PNC Field. Todd Redmond (8-9) picked up the loss pitching six innings for the Braves. Gwinnett (44-53) remains in last place in the International League South while Scranton/WB (57-40) is in first place in IL North.
It Was Over When: Yankee catcher Jesus Montero stepped up to the plate. After Gwinnett put one run on the board in the first inning, Montero led off the second inning with a home run to center field. Montero would homer again, this time a two-run shot, in the sixth inning. His 3 RBI would be enough to put away the G-Braves and secure the win for the Yankees.
Braves Beat: On the Mound: Redmond went 6.0 IP, allowing 4 R/ER while posting 4 K's and 2 BB. Scott Proctor pitched the seventh and gave up 2 R/ER on two hits and two walks. In his first appearance for Gwinnett, Michael Broadway pitched a scoreless eighth, striking out one. At the plate: Freddie Freeman was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Barbaro Canizares was 1-for-3 with a run-scoring single in the first.
The Opposition: On the Mound: Ivan Nova (8-2) went 8.0 IP, yielding 1 R/ER while striking out six and giving up five hits for Scranton/WB. Mark Melancon relieved Nova to pitch a scoreless ninth. At the plate: Montero was 2-for-3 with a 2 HR and 3 RBI for the Yankees.
