Power Outage for Hillcats in Kinston
June 24, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Kinston topped Lynchburg 2-1 in the first game of the three-game set and the opening contest of the second half of the season. A 20-minute break in the action for a power outage could not wake up the Hillcats bats in the defeat.
The Indians snapped a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning with a pair of runs. Lucas Montero smacked a two-out, two-run double before he was thrown out over running second base. Lynchburg got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. With a man on and two down, Kyle Day rifled a ball off the wall in left-center to bring home the run.
Then in the bottom of the sixth play was halted when the power went out at Grainger Stadium. There were no outs and nobody on at the time of the delay with an 0-1 count on the batter. After the lights came back on, baseball resumed.
The loss went to starter Jordan Hotchkiss (4-1) for Lynchburg (0-1, 29-42). The right-hander went a season-high five and 1/3 innings and only gave up two runs in the tough luck loss. The win went to starter Joey Mahalic (3-1) for Kinston (1-0, 37-34). It was Mahalic's second win in his last two starts over the Hillcats. The save went to Cory Burns, who is now 23-for-23 on the season in save situations and has 11 with the K-Tribe.
On Friday night right-hander James Avery (2-2, 4.40) will get the start for the Hillcats opposite lefty T.J. House (2-4, 3.30) for the Indians. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. and you can catch all the live action on 105.5 FM KD Country and on the web at lynchburg-hillcats.com.
