THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg finished the first half of the season with a 3-0 blanking of Potomac...The Hillcats still dropped two out of three in the series at Pfitzner Stadium...The Cats finished the first half with a record of 29-41 and were in fourth place in the Carolina League's Northern Division...Tonight is the first game of the second half and the series opener of a three-game series at Kinston...

VS. KINSTON: Lynchburg is 6-4 against Kinston this season and they are 2-1 at Grainger Stadium...The Hillcats went 10-10 versus the Indians in 2009 and were 6-4 at Grainger Stadium...After starting 8-4 against the K-Tribe, the Cats lost six of the final eight games between the two...Lynchburg is 154-151 all-time against the Indians and 68-84 in Kinston...

SERENITY NOW: At the start of today the Hillcats are back to a record of 0-0 and our in a four-way tie for the top spot in the Northern Division...In the first half of the season the Hillcats went 29-41 and finished in last place in the Northern Division...They had the second to worst record in the league behind Myrtle Beach (26-44)...Lynchburg was fourth in batting average (.261) and fifth in ERA (3.90)...In other categories of interest they were next to last in runs scored (267, 3.8 per game), second in home runs (48) and last in walks drawn (163)...

FESTIVUS: The Hillcats had three off days for the All-Star game after they ended the first half of the season with 53 games in 55 days and in the half they played 70 contests in 74 days...In comparison the Reds played two less games over that same stretch...Lynchburg finished the first half with a record of 29-41...Last season the Cats went 28-42 in the second half before they won six out of eight in the post-season to win the 2009 Carolina League Championship...

NO SOUP FOR YOU! On Sunday afternoon Lynchburg shutout Potomac to give them six shutouts on the season...The Hillcats finished the first half with four shutouts in their final nine games...They didn't pick-up their first blanking of an opponent until their 45th game of the season, but six shutouts in their last 36 games...

INVITATIONS: On Tuesday night Myrtle Beach hosted the California versus Carolina League All-Star Game at BB&T Coastal Field...The California League won 4-3 with a ninth inning run...RHP Brad Boxberger was the Hillcat lone representative and he worked a perfect sixth inning in the contest...

THIS IS A MEAL! INF Carlos Mendez was promoted to Double-A Carolina over the all-star break and he made his debut with the Mudcats last night...He made an appearance in the game as a pinch-hitter and knocked into a ground ball double play...Mendez was leading the Hillcats in batting average (.296), hits (74) and was second in runs scored (32)...

IN A NEW YORK MINUTE: RHP Lance Janke tossed six shutout innings on Sunday at Potomac to earn his third win of the season...The six innings of work matched his longest outing of the season and it marked the first time in four starts this season the right-hander did not allow a run...In his last two games Janke has nt given up a run in seven and 1/3 innings pitched...In his five previous appearances he had allowed 15 runs in 12 and 2/3 innings of action (10.66 ERA) to raise his earned run average to 6.98...In his last two games he has shrunk that number 5.87...

BIG SALAD: UTIL Brodie Greene was promoted to Lynchburg from Rookie Billings last Friday and made his professional debut that night...He batted second and started at short stop and went 1-for-5 with his first career hit as a pro...Just ten days earlier he was playing his final collegiate game for Texas A&M in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional...The Aggies lost to Miami in the regional, a team that was led by C Yasmani Grandal, who was the Reds first round selection (12th overall) in this year's draft...Greene was the fourth round selection of the Reds in the same draft and batted .395 with 14 homers, 55 RBI and 23 steals in 65 games this season with the Aggies...Greene was a second-team All-Big 12 selection and in his college days he played every defensive position except catcher and first base...

THE SWITCH: OF Josh Fellhauer went 1-for-3 on Sunday afternoon and in the series against Potomac he went 4-for-12 (.333) with a double and a run scored...He batted in the third, seventh and sixth spot in the line-up in the series, which marked the first times this season he has hit anywhere in the line-up other than first or second...Fellhauer was 1-for-15 (.067) in his previous four games, was 4-for-27 (.148) in his last nine contests and was batting .167 (9-for-54) in the month of June before his multi-hit game on Friday night, which was his first since June 8th...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Joey Mahalic was selected by the Indians in the 2nd round of the 2007 draft out of high school in Portland, Oregon...He made his professional debut with the GCL Indians that same year and went 2-0 with a 4.88 ERA in seven games (four starts)...In 2008 he threw for full season Low-A Lake County and had a 7-6 mark with a 4.19 ERA in 20 games (18 starts)...He returned to the Captains last season and had an 0-1 record with a 1.91 ERA in six starts before earning the call-up to Kinston...He made just one start with the Indians and took the loss as he allowed eight earned runs in three and 2/3 innings and missed the rest of the season with a right elbow strain...This season he has returned to action with the K-Tribe and has a 2-1 mark with a 3.60 ERA in 12 games (seven starts)...The right-hander has been much better as a starter this season, posting a 2.80 ERA while in the rotation, as opposed to his 6.52 ERA when throwing in relief...Mahalic has made three appearances (one start) against Lynchburg this season and he is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA (four earned runs in 12 innings)...
