Peacock Pitches P-Nats Past Pelicans

June 24, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Potomac Nationals News Release

The Potomac Nationals are undefeated to start the second half of the Carolina League season.

Potomac defeated the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 2-1 in a pitchers' dual Thursday night at Pftizner Stadium. P-Nats starter Brad Peacock emerged as the winner, striking out eight batters in a season-high seven innings.

Peacock held Myrtle Beach to one run on four hits in the outing. It was his first win since May 6. The right-hander also became the first Carolina League pitcher and third pitcher in all of Minor League Baseball to record 100 strikeouts in 2010. He leads the league with 101 strikeouts.

P-Nats reliever Dan Leatherman earned the save after retiring the final batter in the eighth and striking out the side in the ninth.

The Pelicans took the lead in the third inning on an RBI-single by Mike Jones.

Myrtle Beach clung to the precarious 1-0 lead until Robby Jacobsen blasted the equalizer over the left-field wall on the first pitch of the P-Nats' half of the sixth inning. Tyler Moore put the P-Nats on top 2-1 with another lead-off homer in the seventh.

Moore, despite batting just .198, is now the league's third-leading home run hitter with 10 blasts. He is also second on the team with 41 RBI.

The P-Nats and Pelicans square off again in Game Two of the three-game series Friday at 7:03 p.m. Potomac left-hander Evan Bronson is scheduled to face Myrtle Beach righty Arodys Vizcaino.
