The PawSox took a 6-2 lead into the ninth inning on Monday night at McCoy and had to hang on for a 6-5 win over Lehigh Valley. Pawtucket (3-2) got a three run homer from Aaron Bates and two hits apiece from Jorge Jimenez, Mark Wagner and Angel Sanchez. Jimenez, Sanchez and Josh Reddick each had an rbi.
Michael Bowden was solid in his first start of 2010. He allowed a run on one hit in three innings. Randor Bierd (1-0) earned the win, pitching three frames. Bierd fanned three hitters. Dustin Richardson and Robert Manuel each hurled a shutout inning before veteran lefty Alan Embree got into trouble in the ninth. Embree walked four batters in a third of an inning, allowing three earned runs. Fernando Cabrera came in and put out the fire, earning his first save of the season.
The series and homestand conclude on Tuesday afternoon. Lefty Brian Mazone (0-0, 7.20) faces Boof Bonser (0-0, 6.23) Game time is 12:05 p.m.
