Clinton LumberKings News Release
Appleton, WI - Another tapemeasure blast by Kalian Sams got the offense going in the first inning and right-hander Taylor Stanton was good enough to win over 6.0 innings as the Clinton LumberKings earned their first road win, a 7-4 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Time Warner Cable Field.
Sams gave Rattlers right-hander and Milwaukee Brewers' 2009 first-round pick Eric Arnett rudely, belting a three-run homer to straightaway center that carried over the back wall of the ballpark. Vinnie Catricala added an RBI single as well as Clinton grabbed a 4-0 lead.
The Kings loaded the bases again in the second thanks to three Wisconsin errors and Nick Franklin drove home Steven Baron with a 4-3 groundout.
Stanton (W, 1-0) scattered three hits over the first five innings, getting help from his defense. Daniel Carroll robbed Chris Dennis of a two-out, two run double in the fifth, flagging down the liner in deep center.
Dennis would come through an inning later, however, cracking a two-run homer to left. Stanton gave up three runs in the inning and exited after six frames with the Kings ahead, 6-3.
Shaver Hansen added an RBI single with two outs in the eighth and another insurance run scored on Wisconsin's seventh and final error in the ninth.
Lefty Nick Czyz (H, 1) fired 2.0 scoreless innings and right-hander Chris Kirkland allowed a run but worked out of a jam in the ninth.
Sams (1-for-3, 3 RBI) and Catricala (2-for-3, 2 runs scored, RBI) lead the offensive attack for Clinton. Dennis finished 2-for-4 with the home run, two runs scored and two RBI for Wisconsin.
The LumberKings (3-2) conclude the series with the Timber Rattlers (3-2) tomorrow night at Time Warner Cable Field, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM. Left-hander Jimmy Gillheeney (0-1, 7.36) will make his second start of the season. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN or www.lumberkings.com.
