
Adams Does In Kernels Again

Davenport, IA - For the second game in a row a home run by Matt Adams proved to be the game winning run as the Quad Cities River Bandits defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 1-0, on Monday afternoon at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport.
Kernels starter Tyler Skaggs (0-1) held the River Bandits to three hits over five innings with his only mistake the homer to Adams. Tyler Kehrer pitched the final three innings, giving up two walks and striking out three. Quad Cities starter Joe Kelly held the Kernels to one hit over five innings and Aaron Terry picked up his second save.
The Kernels out hit the River Bandits for the second game in a row. Jean Segura and Luis Jimenez both had doubles and Kevin Ramos went 1-3. Cedar Rapids had a chance to tie the game in the ninth as Segura doubled and went to third on a missed catch error. Jose Jimenez grounded out to first and Segura was thrown out at home on a contact play as Luis Jimenez grounded to short. Luis moved into scoring position with a stolen base but Adam Younger grounded out to short to end the game.
The Kernels will look to avoid the sweep on Tuesday night as Garrett Richards makes his second start for the Kernels against Deryk Hooker. The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, April 14th and open a three game set with the Peoria Chiefs.
