Lansing Lugnuts News Release

MIDLAND, Mich. - Balbino Fuenmayor homered and went 5-for-5, helping the Lansing Lugnuts (2-3) to a second straight comeback win over the Great Lakes Loons (3-2), 4-3, on Monday night at Dow Diamond.

A night after scoring nine unanswered runs to wipe out a late six-run deficit, the Lugnuts erased a 3-0 Loons advantage. It was Lansing's second consecutive win following a season-opening sweep in Dayton.

A Jerry Sands RBI single in the third and a Brian Cavazos-Galvez two-run single in the fourth had given Great Lakes the lead.

Kevin Nolan's two-out, two-run double in the fifth brought the Lugnuts within one.

In the eighth inning, the visitors took control against Loons reliever Jordan Roberts (1-1). Fuenmayor tied the score leading off the frame, slugging his first home run to deep right-center. Two batters later, Jon Talley doubled to right-center and ninth-place hitter Chris Hopkins followed with an RBI double of his own to score pinch-runner Eric Eiland and give the Lugnuts the lead for good.

Lansing reliever Aaron Loup (1-0) earned the win with 2 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out six. Steve Turnbull pitched the ninth to earn his second save in as many days.

The Lugnuts compiled 10 base hits in the game, half of those coming from their young first baseman. Fuenmayor cracked three singles and a double to go with his roundtripper, raising his batting average from .133 to .350.

The game featured 25 combined runners left on base between the teams, 13 by the Loons.

The Lugnuts and Loons play the finale in their three-game series at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday night. The starting matchup will feature the Opening Day starters for each squad, with Lansing right-hander Ryan Shopshire (0-0, 7.20) taking on Great Lakes right-hander Josh Wall (0-0, 11.25).

On Wednesday, April 14, at 7:05 p.m., the Lugnuts open their home schedule at Cooley Law School Stadium with an Opening Day Eat-a-Palooza. For $15, fans can purchase a ticket to see the Lugnuts battle the Lake County Captains and enjoy unlimited food inside the ballpark. Additionally, the inaugural Lansing Lugnuts Hall of Fame class will be inducted in a special pre-game ceremony.

Tickets to the April 26th Crosstown Showdown presented by Auto-Owners Insurance, as well as the entire Lugnuts' 2010 home schedule are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
