Dayton Dragons News Release
Bowling Green, Kentucky-Henry Rodriguez belted home runs from both sides of the plate including a grand slam that highlighted a six-run seventh inning as the Dayton Dragons came from behind to defeat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 7-4 on Monday night. The win kept the Dragons perfect on the 2010 season as they won their fifth straight game.
Bowling Green jumped ahead with one run in the first inning and three more in the second to take a 4-0 lead. It was the first time all season that the Dragons had trailed by more than one run at any time. Meanwhile, Hot Rods starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein was outstanding over his five innings, allowing just three base runners and no runs.
In the top of the sixth, the Dragons got on the board against Bowling Green reliever Jairo De La Rosa when Rodriguez launched a home run to right field, his first of the year, to make it 4-1.
The seventh inning started when Chris Richburg was hit with the first pitch of the frame. One out later, Efrain Contreras singled to center, and Frank Pfister was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Shane Carlson reached on error by Bowling Green third baseman Julio Cedeno as the first run of the inning scored. Didi Gregorius walked to force in a run and make it 4-3. Rodriguez followed by drilling an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for a grand slam, his second homer of the game, to make it 7-4 and close out the scoring.
Dragons reliever Chase Ware (1-0) tossed three scoreless innings to earn the win. Doug Salinas worked a perfect ninth inning for his first save.
The Dragons finished with just five hits. Rodriguez's two homers extended his hitting streak to five straight games.
Nineteen year old Dragons starting pitcher Jacob Johnson made his Midwest League debut. He worked four innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs with four walks and a strikeout.
