Albuquerque's Wings Clipped in Loss to Red Claws

PORTLAND, ME, March 17, 2010 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds kept the game close through the game's first quarter, but Maine opened the game up in the second and went on to cruise to a 122-95 victory on Wednesday night. Chad Toppert led the way for Albuquerque with 22 points.

Trey Gilder scored 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the T-Birds in his first game against his former team. Antoine Agudio (14), Keith McLeod (12) and Shane Edwards (10) rounded out the T-Birds in double figures.

The game was tied at 32 at the end of a first quarter that featured seven ties and seven lead changes. Albuquerque led 43-41 midway through the second period, but Maine closed the quarter on a 22-7 run to take a 13 point lead into halftime.

The T-Birds never got any closer than 13 in the second half, as Maine pulled away for the 27 point victory.

Paul Davis led the way for the Red Claws with 29 points. Morris Almond added 19 for Maine.

Maine shot 59.0% from the field for the game, while the T-Birds connected on just 45.3% of their shots.

The team will have a chance to bounce back against the Red Claws on Friday night. The game will begin at 5:30 PM, and fans can listen in to the action live on 1050 KTBL.
