Shirokov Named To PlanetUSA Team For 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic

The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced today that Moose right-winger Sergei Shirokov has been named to the PlanetUSA All-Star Team for the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic, to be held January 18-19 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine.

Shirokov, 23, has appeared in 33 games with the Moose this season where he has accumulated 23 points (11g & 12a) along with eight penalty minutes. He leads his team in both points and goals and sits fourth in the league in rookie scoring. The Moscow, Russia native also earned his first NHL recall on Oct. 25/09. Shirokov has appeared in six games with the parent Canucks so far this season earning two penalty minutes.

Last year, he played in 56 games with CSKA Moscow of the KHL where he recorded 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points, along with 36 penalty minutes. In 212 career games in Russia, the Moscow, Russia native has recorded 122 points (52-70-152) and 126 penalty minutes. Shirokov was originally drafted by the Canucks in the sixth round, 163rd overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Shirokov will join Moose defenseman Nolan Baumgartner who will serve as a playing captain for the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic.

The 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic will feature the 2010 AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Monday, January 18 (8:00 p.m. ET) and the 2010 AHL All-Star Game on Tuesday, January 19 (6:00 p.m. ET), and will be televised live nationally in the United States and Canada.
