Admirals Double Moose, 4-2

December 5, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose dropped their second consecutive game when they sacrificed a 4-2 decision to the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday night in front of 6,119 spectators at the Bradley Center. Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Aaron Rome both notched goals for Manitoba while Daren Machesney stopped 26 of 30 shots.

Daren Machesney and Winnipeg-born Chet Pickard manned opposite ends of the ice as the Moose and Admirals embarked on their second battle of the season.

Nathan McIver's interference penalty at 3:20 put the Admirals on the first powerplay of the night. Manitoba's penalty killers were sharp and only allowed two shots on net during the man-advantage -both denied by Machesney.

At 8:09 and on their third shot of the night, the Moose opened the scoring. Pierre Cedric Labrie, back after missing 13 games due to injury, knocked the puck off the doorstep and into the mesh for an early one-goal lead.

Back-to-back penalties handed to Milwaukee gave the Moose a five-on-three opportunity. Despite playing with two extra attackers and creating quality chances, the Moose were unsuccessful on their powerplay voyage and went zero-for-two.

The Admirals came out soaring in the second period and their momentum paid off a mere 2:27 into the stanza. With Machesney sprawled on the ice and a crowd of players in front of the net, Triston Grant poked the puck behind the goal-line to knot the game at one.

The Moose were on the penalty kill for almost six-minutes straight in the second period, but denied all opposing opportunities. By the midway point of the game, Milwaukee was leading the Moose in shots 17-7.

Milwaukee took their first lead of the night on their 24th shot. At 15:02, Tristan Grant wrapped the puck around the net and in between Machesney and his goal post for his second of the night.

With 60 seconds left in the period, the Admirals hustled down the ice and Peter Olvecky notched Milwaukee's third consecutive marker to give his club some cushion room.

At 13:33 the Moose put themselves within one. With help from Brian Salcido and Sergei Shirokov, Aaron Rome notched his third of the season when he went top shelf on Pickard.

Fifty-five seconds later, Hugh Jessiman fired the puck and beat Machesney on his blocker side to put his club up 4-2.

LOOKING AHEAD Tomorrow afternoon, the Moose close-out their second three-in-three this season in Rockford.

NEXT GAME Sunday, December 6, 2009 - 4:05 PM @ MetroCentre (4:05pm on CJOB Radio with Brian Munz)
