Chicago Wolves News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves scored two goals in a span of 1:38 late in the second period to rally from a 2-1 deficit and pick up their sixth straight win on home ice, 3-2, over the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Allstate Arena Wednesday night.
Wolves forwards Tim Stapleton and Brett Sterling each tallied their third goal in the last three games, while Chicago's captain Jason Krog added the club's other marker and an assist.
Chicago goaltender Peter Mannino (3-0-0) thwarted 25 shots to earn his third win in a Wolves uniform, and has held opponents to two or fewer goals in each of his three starts this season.
"Our goaltending has been really solid and our power play has been coming up with some goals," said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever. "When we're skating, we are a very tough team to play against in our own building. We are slowly climbing up the ladder."
Stapleton opened scoring for Chicago (11-8-0-1) with a power-play tally, 4:14 into the contest. Nathan Oystrick worked the puck in from the blue line to Krog, who slipped it across the ice for Stapleton to flick past Griffins netminder Daniel Larsson.
Left wing Tomas Tatar evened the score for Grand Rapids (12-6-0-0), 1-1, 9:41 into the first frame when he drove in towards Chicago's net and pushed a shot at Mannino, which dribbled under his pads and over the line.
Cory Emmerton helped the Griffins inch ahead, 2-1, at 7:28 of the second frame. John Vigilante took a long shot, which Mannino stopped, but coughed up a rebound right to a streaking Emmerton, who banged it to the back of the net.
Krog knotted the score again, 2-2, when he took a pass from right wing Spencer Machacek as he flew towards the net and ripped it past Larsson, stick side, at 17:56 of the second period.
Chicago made it 3-2 with 26 seconds remaining in the middle frame when defenseman Grant Lewis took a shot, which Larsson stopped but the rebound eluded him, enabling Sterling to slip in behind him and tipped it over the goal line.
Larsson (7-3-0) turned aside 27 shots for the Griffins.
The Wolves return from the Thanksgiving break to host the Abbotsford Heat to the Allstate Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
