Bentivoglio's Game Winner Lifts Sound Tigers Over Falcons, 3-2

SPRINGFIELD, MA -- Sean Bentivoglio scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Springfield Falcons Friday night at the MassMutual Center. The win snapped Bridgeport's five game losing streak and was the fifth time Bridgeport has won in overtime this year.

The Sound Tigers controlled much of the play in the first period, out-shooting the Falcons 15-6. However, they couldn't put a puck behind goaltender Devan Dubynk and the frame ended scoreless.

Bridgeport came out aggressive in the second period as well and it finally paid off five minutes into the period. With the Sound Tigers on the power-play, Bentivoglio set-up in the slot and blasted a one-time shot off a feed from Greg Mauldin past Dubynk for his fourth goal of the year.

Justin DiBenedetto made it 2-0 Sound Tigers at the 11:03 mark of the second. As Bridgeport cycled the puck, Dustin Kohn fed a pass through the crease to DiBenedetto who re-directed the puck into an open corner of the net to tally his third goal of the year.

The Falcons got on the board in the final minute of the second period when Charles Linglet cleaned up a rebound during a fracas in front of the Sound Tigers net. Scott Munroe made saves on shots by Colton Fretter and Chad Wiseman but Linglet was standing at the side of the goal to eventually pound home the rebound to make it a one goal game after two periods.

Wiseman tied the game for Springfield at the 7:01 mark of the third period. Munroe made a save on an initial chance by Linglet, but Wiseman was trailing the play and put the rebound into the top of the net for his fourth goal of the year.

Bentivoglio scored the game winner 1:32 into overtime. After a bad clearing attempt by the Falcons, Bentivoglio picked up the loose puck, skated around the net and stuffed the puck through Dubnyk's legs to give the Sound Tigers the victory.

The Sound Tigers held a 33-23 advantage in shots on goal. Munroe made 21 saves to earn the victory.
