Blades Get Kytnar Back in the Fold

September 21, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades received a major boost on Sunday night with the reassignment of forward Milan Kytnar (Topolcany, Slovakia) from the Edmonton Oilers.

Kytnar, a 20-year-old, was not expected back with the Blades after signing a three-year contract with the Oilers in late-May. The 5th round pick (127th overall) of the Oilers was reassigned to the Blades following the team's 3-1 preseason loss to the New York Islanders on Sunday night at Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon.

The 6'0", 185-pounder was second in scoring last year for the Blades with 27 goals and 37 assists for 64 points in 65 games played while adding 89 penalty minutes. In 7 playoff games, he had 3 goals and 1 assist for 4 points and added 14 penalty minutes.

"Getting a player of Milan's stature back in the fold is great news for our hockey club," commented Blades General Manager and Head Coach Lorne Molleken. "Adding him to our already experienced group of forwards only makes us stronger."

"Obviously we have some tough decisions to make in the next few days, but we are eager to welcome Milan back."

Coupled with the return of defenseman Jyri Niemi from New York Islanders camp also on Sunday night, the Blades currently have 27 players on the roster, including 16 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders.

The Blades next action is Wednesday with a return engagement against the Regina Pats at the Brandt Centre in Regina. On Friday, the Blades opened the 2009-10 regular season with a convincing 5-1 victory over the Pats.

The next home game is next Friday, September 25th, when the Blades clash with the Edmonton Oil Kings at Credit Union Centre. Puck drop is 7:05 pm. Tickets are available online at ticketmaster.ca, by calling 938-7800, or by visiting any Ticketmaster location.
