Hitmen's Tyler Fiddler named Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Tyler Fiddler of the Calgary Hitmen.

Fiddler picked up five points, scoring four goals and one assist to go with a +3 rating, in two games over the WHL Opening Weekend.

On Friday, September 18th, the Hitmen opened their regular season on the road travelling north to face their divisional rivals the Red Deer Rebels. Fiddler scored a natural hat trick, finding the net three times in under nine minutes, and added an assist as the Hitmen defeated the Rebels 6-2. He was named the games 1st Star for his efforts. The following evening, Saturday, September 19th, the Edmonton Oil Kings hosted the Calgary Hitmen for their home opener at Rexall Place. Fiddler picked up a goal and an assist as the Hitmen doubled up the Oil Kings 4-2. He was also named the games 2nd Star.

Fiddler, a 19 year old from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, is in his second full season with the Calgary Hitmen. Appearing in 64 WHL games last season and scoring three goals, Fiddler has already surpasses his goal total of last season with his impressive opening weekend.

The WHL has also nominated Ian Curtis of the Portland Winterhawks for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. On Saturday, September 19th, the Portland Winterhawks began their regular season schedule on the road as they visited the ShoWare Centre in Kent to face the Seattle Thunderbirds. Curtis stopped all 24 shots faced to record his first career shut-out as the Winterhawks downed the Thunderbirds 5-0. He was also named the games 3rd Star.
