Earthquakes Acquire Defender Bobby Burling From Chivas USA

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the team has acquired defender Bobby Burling from Chivas USA in exchange for a third round draft pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.

"We are excited to add a young player of the caliber of Bobby Burling to our roster," said General Manager John Doyle. "He brings great size and strength to our backline. He is also versatile player who can fill multiple positions at the back and even play up front."

Burling joins the Earthquakes after nearly three seasons with Chivas USA. He has appeared in 23 games in his career, starting 19 of those. He has appeared in three games so far this season. He started his career with Chivas USA in 2007.

The 6-5 defender played for Loyola Marymount University for four years. Burling finished an accomplished career ranked in the top six of the LMU records in goals, assists, and points, and led the team in scoring as a senior despite having switched to central defender from his usual forward position. His final year on the team he was a captain and was named team MVP. He was named All-West Coast Conference three times and was on the NSCAA All-Far West Second Team in 2006 and Third Team in 2004.
