Salem RidgeYaks News Release
Salem, VA (August 5, 2009) - The Red Sox went into the day thinking they needed a win to remain in the Southern Division wild card lead. They turned out to be incorrect.
Steady rain in the Roanoke Valley washed out the scheduled series finale between Salem and Myrtle Beach on Wednesday night, sending the Red Sox off on their seven-game road swing clinging to their half-game lead over the Pelicans in the second half standings. The postponed contest will be played as part of a doubleheader at BB&T Coastal Field sometime during Salem's visit to the Palmetto State next week.
The Red Sox open a four-game series at Kinston on Thursday evening at Grainger Stadium. Kyle Weiland, originally scheduled to get the ball on Wednesday, will get the start to open the series against the Indians. He will be opposed by Kinston's Russell Young, with the first pitch set for 7:00.
