
Drive, Braves Split Doubleheader at State Mutual Stadium

Rome, GA - The Drive and Rome Braves closed out their four-game series Wednesday at State Mutual Stadium by splitting a twinbill. Greenville (24-21), backed by homers from Kade Keowen and Ryan Lavarnway, came away with a 5-3 victory in the first game while Gerry Rodriguez's 10th inning blast captured a 4-3 walk-off win for the Braves (25-21) in game two.
In game one Rome took and early 1-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a sacrifice fly RBI from Randy Gress. Greenville quickly tied the game in the third on an RBI single by David Mailman. In the fourth, Greenville took the lead 3-1 as Kade Keowen hit a two run homer. Rome answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning highlighted by Stephen Shults' two run shot.
The Drive took the lead for good in the sixth 5-3 as Ryan Lavarnway hit a solo home run and Oscar Tejeda walked with the bases loaded. Stolmy Pimentel (2-3) earned the win, allowing three runs on three hits and walk, while fanning four over 5.0 innings.
Rome took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two thanks to a two RBI triple by Gerry Rodriguez. In the third inning the Braves added one run to make it 3-0 on an RBI single by Jesus Sucre. Greenville answered with two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2 on two run homer by Anthony Rizzo, and tied the game 3-3 in the fifth on a solo homerun by David Marks.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the tenth inning when Gerry Rodriguez completed the cycle by hitting a walk off home run to give the Braves the 4-3 victory.
Felix Ventura (1-2) suffered the loss, striking out three and surrendering two hits over the final 2.0 innings.
The Drive return home to Fluor Field on tomorrow when they begin a seven-game homestand, starting with the Charleston RiverDogs. First pitch for Thursday's game is set for 7:05 PM as first place Charleston sends right-hander Brett Marshall to the mound. Greenville's starting pitcher has yet to be determined.
