Jackets Bash Their Way to 9-3 Win

Augusta, GA - For the second time in this series the Augusta GreenJackets hit two home runs as a team and completed an impressive first half series with the Asheville Tourists, winning 9-3 to wrap up an eight-game homestand. The Jackets have now won seven of eight against Asheville this season and nine of their last 11 overall this season.
The GreenJackets tallied three runs in the first before Tourists starter Robinson Fabian had even recorded an out. Charlie Culberson drilled an RBI triple to right-center ahead of Mike Loberg's two-run home run to give the Jackets and their starter Paul Oseguera an early three-run advantage.
Oseguera (1-0) cruised through his second start of the year, striking out ten Tourists and allowing just one run all night. He scattered seven hits throughout and walked just one in seven innings.
Augusta provided much-needed insurance in a big way off Fabian in the sixth. Andy D'Alessio creamed Fabian's first offering of the sixth well over the right-field wall. James Simmons followed with a first-pitch single and Matt Klimas followed that with a first-pitch double. Klimas would score on Dom Duggan's two-out double. Culberson continued the hit parade, driving home Duggan to complete the four-run onslaught. The Jackets added another in the seventh on Simmons' RBI double.
Delta Cleary scored twice for the Tourists - once on a wild pitch in the sixth and again on a passed ball in the eighth - with Asheville getting their last run on a groundout after Jordan Pacheco's eighth inning double. Andrew Reichard pitched a clean ninth to preserve the win for the Jackets.
The GreenJackets will not see the Tourists again until July which is music to Asheville's ears. The Tourists were outscored 48-15 by Augusta in the eight meetings this year between the two ballclubs. The Jackets also wrap up a 6-2 homestand, taking two of three from the Greenville Drive and four of five from Asheville.
Augusta will have a day off Thursday before heading out on an eight-game road trip. The GreenJackets will play 14 of their next 17 away from the friendly confines of Lake Olmstead Stadium. Eric Surkamp (2-1, 4.54) will take to the mound at Applebee's Park in Lexington when the GreenJackets begin a four-game set with the Legends. He'll be opposed by righty Kyle Greenwalt (2-2, 2.91).
