Greenville Drive News Release
Augusta, GA - Tim Federowicz, Ryan Lavarnway and the rest of the offense made sure that the Drive's (21-20) losing streak did not expand to a week, pounding out a total of 19 hits in a 13-10 victory over Augusta GreenJackets (17-23).
The win did not come without any drama, however, as the âJackets plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 10-10, before the Drive scored three more times in their last at bat to secure the win.
With the bases loaded and one out, a Johnny Monell passed ball allowed Kade Keowen to score, representing the eventual game-winner. Oscar Tejeda added a sacrifice fly and Federowicz capped his 4-for-6 performance with a run-scoring single, his third RBI of the evening.
The Drive managed to score at least one run in every inning, with the exception of the sixth. Ryan Lavarnway, who also finished 4-for-6 at the plate, knocked in the first run of the game in the first on an RBI-double. The catcher from Harvard added an RBI-single in the third and his third home run of the season two innings later.
In addition to Federowicz's and Lavarnway's four-hit performances, Zach Gentile tallied three hits, and Oscar Tejeda, Kade Keowen, and Will Middlebrooks each added a pair of hits.
A trio of pitchers combined on the win for Greenville, with Armando Zerpa (1-0) holding Augusta scoreless over the final 1-1/3 innings for his first victory. Starting pitcher Caleb Clay was in line for the win when he exited after 6.0 innings, despite allowing six runs - five earned - on seven hits and two walks. The GreenJackets tagged Yeiper Castillo for four runs in 1-2/3 innings.
The Drive and GreenJackets conclude their four-game series tomorrow evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Bryan Price will toe the rubber for Greenville as Augusta counters with southpaw Aaron King.
The Drive return home to Fluor Field on Thursday, May 28th when they begin a seven-game homestand, starting with the Charleston RiverDogs. Single-game tickets, group outings, and luxury accommodations can be purchased by calling (864) 240-4500 or visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com for more information.
