Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Kevin Thomas was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing the best outing of a season in which he has yet to allow an earned run.

Thomas, 22, boasts a 2-0 record with a save and a spotless 0.00 ERA through 18.1 innings this year. He has 13 strikeouts with just three walks and seven hits allowed. On April 15 against Beloit, the Texas native tossed two hitless innings to close out game one of a doubleheader, combining with Hector Cardenas to throw the first Quad Cities no-hitter since 2001.

But his best was yet to come. Thomas was flawless on Saturday in Clinton, where the retired all 15 batters he faced over five perfect innings and allowed just three balls to leave the infield. Combined with 3.1 innings of two-hit ball on April 27 against Wisconsin, Thomas wrapped up the week of April 27-May 3 with a 2-0 record, a 0.00 ERA and just two hits allowed over 8.1 innings of work.

While Thomas was named the league's Pitcher of the Week, Devaris Gordon of the Great Lakes Loons was named the Midwest League Player of the Week. Gordon hit .424 during the period with a league-high 10 runs scored and 14 base hits.

The two are scheduled to face each other on Wednesday in Midland, Michigan, as the River Bandits and Loons lock horns for game two of a three-game series at the Dow Diamond.

UP NEXT: The River Bandits continue their road trip on Monday with the rubber match of a three-game series against the LumberKings in Clinton before heading to Great Lakes on Tuesday. They will return to Modern Woodmen Park for a three-game homestand against the Cedar Rapids Kernels that begins on Friday, May 8. The series kicks off with Going Green Night, featuring an Aluminum Water Bottle Giveaway from the Waste Commission as well as a fireworks show on a Fireworks Friday. One night later the first 1,000 fans will get a free hat from the Association of the United States Army on Military Appreciation Night, while Spatterdash takes the stage for a live post-game concert on a Rockin' Saturday. The series concludes with the first Tailz 'Er Waggin' Dog Day of Summer on a U.S. Bank Family Sunday, which will also be Make-a-Wish Night at the ballpark!

ABOUT THE BANDITS: Under new ownership and management in 2008, the Quad Cities River Bandits topped 207,000 fans for only the sixth time in team history and the first time in 12 years.
