
Chiefs complete DH and series sweep of Kernels, 3-0

April 28, 2009 - The Peoria Chiefs completed a DH and series sweep of the Cedar Rapids Kernels in game two of a DH at O'Brien Field in Peoria on Tuesday afternoon by the score of 3-0. Peoria starter Chris Archer (1-0) allowed one hit and struck out eight over five innings for the win and Kevin Kreier pitched two innings of relief for his first save.
The Chiefs scored all three runs in the third inning off Kernels starter Manuarys Correa (1-2) on an RBI single by Josh Harrison, followed by a two run HR by Rebel Ridling. Correa pitched the second Kernel complete game in a row, allowing six hits and striking out two over six innings.
Matt Crawford and Gabe Jacobo each had a single as the Kernels were held to just two hits.
The loss drops the Kernels to 9-9 in the first half of the MWL season and into fourth place. Peoria improves to 9-8.
The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, April 29 to open a six game home stand with games against West Michigan and Peoria.
