Peoria, IL - Behind 11 brilliant innings of shutout baseball by starters Chris Carpenter and Chris Archer, the Peoria Chiefs swept a doubleheader from the Cedar Rapids Kernels with 1-0 and 3-0 wins Tuesday afternoon in front of 8,179 fans at O'Brien Field. That marks the ninth highest attendance in club history, and seventh best at O'Brien Field as the Chiefs won their fourth straight. Click Here to read the full recap.
Casey's General Store Players of the Game: Chris Carpenter (RHP) & Chris Archer (RHP)- Carpenter hasn't been scored upon in his last two starts after his terrific six inning scoreless outing in game one Tuesday. Archer improved to 1-0 on the season, and lowered his ERA to a staff-best 1.59.
Notes:
The Chiefs are 6-0 at home and have swept both home doubleheaders this season... With the conclusion of game two, the Chiefs completed three straight games without committing an error... Game one was the Chiefs first 1-0 since 7/6/08 at Quad Cities. It was Peoria's first shutout since 7/12/08 and the first consecutive shutouts since 7/20 and 7/21 of 2007 against Fort Wayne... The Chiefs are now 6-5 in one-run games so far this season.... Flores' and Correa's complete-games were the first against Peoria in 2009... Before Tuesday, the Chiefs last four-game sweep at home came against Kane County 6/27-30 in 2008... ...The Chiefs hit the road for a 12-game roadtrip starting Wednesday at Burlington.
