
Gladiators Drop 3-1 Decision to Cyclones

Cincinnati, OH - Brandon Kaleniecki notched his first goal for the Gladiators since December but Gwinnett could not get past the Cincinnati Cyclones in a 3-1 loss at the US Bank Arena on Tursday night. Gwinnett falls to 28-29-6 on the season with the loss.
Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead on the Gladiators 8:25 into the first period. Dustin Sproat beat Gwinnett netminder Joe Fallon for the goal as the Cyclones forward crashed the net rolling the puck past the netminder for the goal. Chris D'Alvise and T.J. McElroy collected the assists on the goal for the Cyclones.
Gwinnett equalized the contest in the second period on Kaleniecki's 8th goal of the season. Right off a faceoff deep in the Cincinnati zone, Kaleniecki threw the puck to the net from along the goal line and it eluded Cyclones netminder Loic Lacasse for the marker. Dan Sullivan had an assist on the goal at 6:20 of the second period.
Cincinnati took a 3-1 lead on the Gladiators with a pair of goals just 71 seconds apart early in the thrid period. Mark Van Guilder beat Fallon from point blank range in the slot at 2:02 of the third period for the go-ahead goal. Matt Syroczynski and Barrett Ehgoetz added the assists on the goal for Cyclones.
Adam Krug slipped by both Gladiators defensemen at the Gwinnett blue line and beat Fallon over the shoulder on a breakaway for the marker. D'Alvise added his second assist of the game on the goal for Cincinnati at 3:13 of the third period.
Fallon finished with 27 saves in the losing effort for Gwinnett. The Gladiators went 0-for-7 on the power play in the loss while keeping the Cyclones off the board on the man advantage on six chances.
The Gladiators continue the 2008-09 season on Saturday, March 21st as they travel to Troy, Ohio to take on the Dayton Bombers at 7:35 p.m. at the Hobart Arena. Catch all the play by play action on WDUN, News Talk 550.
