Admirals Scorched by Flames 5-2

Milwaukee, WI- The Quad City Flames, the West Division's seventh ranked team, out-played the first-place Milwaukee Admirals Sunday night and came away with a 5-2 victory over the Ads at the Bradley Center.
It didn't take long for Quad Cities to get on the board when at 2:50 David Van Der Gulik was sitting right by the post, and after a shot from Carsen Germyn bounced off of Admiral netminder Drew MacIntyre's left leg pad Van Der Gulik was quick to shove it in through his legs and capitalize on a power-play. Adam Cracknell was also credited with an assist on the play as well.
It wouldn't be their only goal of the period, and it wouldn't be Van Der Gulik's lone tally either. It was another rebound goal at 11:19 after Brett Sutter fired a shot down the middle of the offensive zone that banked off of MacIntyre and went right to Van Der Guilk's stick. It was his 12th goal of the season, and Sutter's tenth point.
The Flames added to their lead just a minute and five seconds into the second period. After receiving a pass from right-wing Kris Chucko, Germyn blasted a slapshot from the left point and it sailed past a screened MacIntyre. It was their second power-play goal of the game and Germyn's second point as well.
Admirals' defenseman Alexander Sulzer got the team on the board at 4:33 when he scored his eighth goal of the season with a rocket-fast slap shot from the point that deflected off of a Quad City defenseman's knee-pad in front of the net. Cody Franson picked up his 23rd point of the season with an assist on the play as well.
The Flames scored once again at 12:49 of the second to push their lead back up to three goals. Cam Cunning gave a perfect pass over to defenseman Brett Palin who drilled a wrist shot top shelf over MacIntyre's blocker side, putting the Flames up 4-1 midway through the second.
In an attempt to come-back from the 4-1 deficit, Nolan Yonkman netted his second goal of the season at 17:29 of the third with a rock hard snap shot that blew by Quad Cities netminder Leland Irving. Andreas Thuresson and Mark Santorelli received assists on the play that gave the Ads hope.
Although the come-back attempt looked promising, with just 1:24 left Brett Sutter potted an empty net goal for his third point of the game as MacIntyre was pulled in favor of an extra attacker.
The loss for the Admirals was their first defeat in regulation on home ice since they fell to the Rockford IceHogs by the same 5-2 score on November 15th.
