Gaunce Named OHL Defenseman of the Month

Mississauga ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors are pleased to announce that defenceman Cameron Gaunce has been named OHL Defenceman of the Month for December by the Ontario Hockey League.

Cameron Gaunce led all OHL defencemen in December scoring with four goals and 12 assists for 16 points and has a plus-minus rating of plus-5 in 11 games for the Majors. Gaunce led the Majors to a December record of 8-2-1-0 which included a season-high seven game winning streak. Gaunce had five multi-point games, scoring three points in four different games. He was named third star of the game twice and second star of the game two different times including his two goal and one assist performance in a 7-5 win over the Kitchener Rangers on December 28. Gaunce was named the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 14.

Gaunce, an 18-year-old from Markham, ON is in his second season with the Majors. His 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points in 37 games rank him sixth amongst OHL defencemen in scoring. Gaunce was selected in the second round, 50th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
