AUGUSTA, GA - Scott Thauwald scored his first two pro goals and Chris Brooks blasted a shot past Charlotte goaltender Jeff Jakaitis two minutes into overtime on the power play as the Lynx (5-3-1) defeated the Checkers 4-3 in front of 4,224 at James Brown Arena on Friday night. Jeff Miles put visiting Charlotte on the board at 9:43 of the first period with a power play goal and the Checkers led 1-0. Augusta answered four minutes later as Matt Auffrey pushed his way to the front of the net and Bordeleau hammered in the loose puck to even the score at one.

In the second period, Thauwald knocked the puck past Jakaitis to give Augusta their first lead of the night at 2-1. Thauwald continued his prowess as he ripped a wrist shot from the left wing wall past Jakaitis to make it a two goal lead for the Lynx in the third period.

The Checkers awoke in the third when Tomas Zaborsky and Peter James Corsi tallied goals 22 seconds apart and the game was tied at three. Mike Brodeur made some key saves late in the period to help send the game to overtime. In the extra session, Brooks won it with a slap shot from the left point and Augusta won for the second straight game.
