Jackals Open Season With A Bang

Elmira, NY- Limousines, tuxedo's and red carpet were only the beginning to the Elmira Jackals home opener and the pre-game festivities were only the tip of the ice berg to an evening that featured a wild 5-2 win over Reading Friday evening.

The Jackals didn't wait long to score the first goal of the season. Moises Gutierrez scored on the first shift of the hockey game, only 12 seconds in. Brandon Roach and Tyler Donati would get credit with the assists. The Royals would even the score at the 10:28 mark on a Shawn Snider goal. The Jackals would then re-take the lead at 13:17 of the first. Tyler Donati would strike on a pass from Chris St. Croix.

The Jackals kept the wheels turning as they netted a 3-1 lead at the 17:52 mark of the second. Steve Yetman made a beautiful move to beat Royals goalie Danny Taylor. Yetman was assisted by Wes Cunningham and Tyler Donati. Jackals goaltender Mitch O'Keefe was steady in period two turning aside all nine shots that were sent his way.

The third period was a wild one. The Royals pulled within one on a Jeff Corey Goal four minutes 37 seconds into the final frame. The Jackals would bite back at the 8:06 mark. Steve Yetman netted his second goal of the contest on a beautiful back door feed from Slavomir Tomko. Tyler Donati also assisted on the play. Tyler Donati would end his memorable night with an empty net goal in the final minute of play to put the finishing touches on an exciting night.

STARS:#1-Donati was named the number one star of the game after netting two goals and adding three assists. #2- Steve Yetman had two highlight real goals. #3- Goaltender Mitch O'Keefe stopped 30 of 32 shots in the contest.
