Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, Ill. (October 11, 2008) - General Manager of Hockey Operations Kevin McDonald announced today that the Peoria Rivermen have acquired defenseman Justin Fletcher from the Norfolk Admirals in exchange for future considerations.
Fletcher, 25, spent his first full season in the AHL last year split between Norfolk (39 games) and the Rockford IceHogs (20 games). He accounted for 16 points (5g, 11a) between the two stops. The defenseman played his collegiate hockey at St. Cloud State University where he departed as the team's all-time leader in power play goals by a defenseman (18), the third-highest scoring defenseman (86 points) and the defenseman with the second-most assists in a SCSU career (60).
The Rivermen open the 27th season of professional hockey in Central Illinois tonight as they face off against the Iowa Chops in their home opener. It is Heritage Bank Magnet Schedule Night for the first 5,000 fans, and one lucky fan will win a Frigidaire Refrigerator, courtesy of the UFS Downtown Outlet Center, on which to put their magnet.
Fans can also enjoy a pre-game tailgate event - "Smoke The Chops!" - just outside the Jefferson Street entrance of Carver Arena from 5:30-7:00 p.m. It is presented by Alwan & Sons Meat Company, Anheuser-Busch, Brewers Distributing, Coca-Cola and Centerplate.
