LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Rudy Seanez will make a rehab appearance with the BlueClaws tonight at FirstEnergy Park as Lakewood takes on the Savannah Sand Gnats at 7:05. Seanez is expected to be the first pitcher out of the bullpen, following the start of Mike Cisco. The 39-year-old reliever signed a one-year contract with the Phillies on April 2 and has made 31 appearances this season going 4-3 with 3.58 ERA. His last appearance with Philadelphia was on July 31 against Washington when he injured his shoulder while trying to apply a tag on the Nationals' Lastings Milledge in the 9th inning. He went on the disabled list the next day.
This is Seanez's 17th season in the Major Leagues and has played for nine different teams including Cleveland (1989-91), San Diego (1993, 2001, 2005- 06), Los Angeles Dodgers (1994-95, 2007), Atlanta (1998-2001), Texas (2002), Boston (2003, 2006), Kansas City (2004) and Florida (2004). Overall for his career, Seanez is 40-29 with a 4.12 ERA in 533 Major League appearances.
Seanez becomes the ninth player with Major League experience to join the BlueClaws and the second this season. Adam Eaton reported the Lakewood on a Minor League assignment on July 31. Wayne Gomes (2001), Tim Worrell (2005), Cole Hamels (2006), Randy Wolf (2006), Ryan Howard (2007), Rod Barajas (2007) and Shane Victorino (2007) are the other Phillies players to rehab in Lakewood.
The BlueClaws are 9-8 in games in which a Major Leaguer has appeared.
Tickets for tonight's game with Savannah, the Class A affiliate of the New York Mets, are still available online at BlueClaws.com, over the phone at (732) 901-7000 or at the FirstEnergy Park ticket office. It will also be the first-ever Used Car Night at FirstEnergy Park, as the BlueClaws will be giving away five cars, thanks to United Teletech Financial.
