Salisbury, Md.- Austin Romine went 4-5, Brandon Laird singled twice and drove in three runs, and Adam Olbrychowski struck out a season-high nine batters as the RiverDogs crushed the Shorebirds 10-3 on Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Jesus Montero and Carmen Angelini each homered for Charleston off Shorebird starter Zach Britton, who suffered his first loss since June 20. Britton only lasted four and a third innings and was battered for seven runs (six earned) on eight hits.

The RiverDogs took the lead after Montero, the third batter in the first inning, pounded a belt-high offering over the wall in left field for a two-run homer. Charleston added an unearned tally in the second to take a 3-0 lead.

The Shorebirds opened the bottom of the third with three straight singles as Joe Mahoney, Kieron Pope, and Matt Angle all reached to bring home a run. A possible big inning against Olbrychowski was negated by a 6-3 double play off the bat of Paco Figueroa. Angelini led off the fourth with a solo shot to give Charleston a 4-1 lead, a three run advantage that doubled an inning later when the Dogs plated three more runs off Britton, chasing him from the ballgame. The eight hits and six earned runs against Britton were highs this season for the normally steady lefthander.

Matt Angle, Paco Figueroa, and Joe Mahoney each had two this in the game, but Shorebird batters also struck out 14 times for the second straight night against Charleston pitching. Joe Nowicki struck out four times while Pedro Florimon fanned three times for Delmarva in their second straight defeat.
