August 11, 2008 - For the second consecutive week a Cedar Rapids Kernels pitcher had earned MWL weekly honors. Kernels LHP Robert Fish has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 10. The Midwest League Office and Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) made the announcement Monday morning.In two starts last week, Fish posted a 1-0 record and allowed no earned runs over 13 IP. He allowed just five hits, walked three and struck out 10. He allowed three hits and struck out six over seven scoreless innings in a 4-2 win over Quad Cities on August 5.
Fish is the sixth Kernel to earn Midwest League weekly honors. LHP Michael Anton was named the MWL Pitcher of the Week on May 12, OF Jeremy Moore was named the MWL Player of the Week on June 9, OF Tyler Johnson was named MWL Player of the Week on June 29, RHP Esmerlin Jimenez was named MWL Pitcher of the Week on July 7 and LHP Trevor Reckling was named MWL Pitcher of the week on August 4.
The Kernels continue an eight-game, seven-day road trip tonight with a 7 pm game at Burlington. They return to Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, August 16, and open a four game home series with the Beloit Snappers.
