
Warthogs Closer Kanekoa Texeira Promoted to Double-A Birmingham

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -Winston-Salem Warthogs closer Kanekoa Texeira has been promoted to Double-A Birmingham. Texeira was 3-1 with a 0.93 ERA in 36 relief appearances for the Warthogs this season
The six-foot Hawaiian leaves the Carolina League with a league-leading 20 saves in 23 opportunities while holding opponents to just a .194 batting average. Texeira had not allowed an earned run in his last 22 appearances spanning 23 1/3 innings.
For his first-half achievements, Texeira was named to the Carolina League All-Star team. He picked up the win for the Carolina League after pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
Texeira was drafted by the White Sox in the 22nd round in 2006 out of Saddleback (Calif.) Junior College and spent all of 2007 with Low-A Kannapolis, where he went 5-2 with a 3.69 ERA and 16 saves. He is currently listed by Baseball America as having the best slider in the White Sox organization.
The Winston-Salem Warthogs start a four-game series versus the Salem Avalanche tonight at Ernie Shore Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
