Kinston Indians News Release
Lock the Keys! - The Frederick Keys have been the Indians' favorite opponent this season, as the Indians secured the season series with a series sweep at Grainger Stadium, winning 8-1, last night. The Indians improved to 12-4 against Frederick, their most wins over any team in the CL. They swept their second series against the Keys, after sweeping a four-game set at Grainger Stadium back in May. That sweep was part of the K-Tribe's longest winning streak on the year at seven games.
Not the Prettiest, but still as sweet - Last night's final score of 8-1 did not indicate how close the game was. Frederick starter Jacob Renshaw did not allow a hit through the first five innings, but a walk and his own error led to his exit. Nick Weglarz then cashed in with Kinston's first hit with an RBI single. Kinston then scored seven runs in the eighth inning on three hits, four walks, two hit batters, and an error for the win.
Something's Gotta Give - The Indians go from playing the team they had the most success with, to the two they had the most trouble with. Kinston has a 5-8 record against Potomac, and a 5-9 record against Wilmington, their two worst records against Carolina League opponents. They have reasons to be encouraged, however, because the last time they made this trip they found some success. Kinston took two out of three from Potomac at Pfitzner Stadium, and split a four-game set at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington.
The CL's Longest Streak returns - Carolina League Player of the week Niuman Romero is on a 20 game hit streak, but served a three-game suspension during the Frederick series. The suspension stems from an altercation between Romero and Potomac's Matt Rogelstad on July 1st. Romero returns to action against the same Nationals team, with his counterpart Rogelstad having been promoted to AA. Romero's streak is the longest in the Carolina League this season. During the streak, Romero is hitting .437 with a .461 on base percentage. Romero has ten multi hit games during the streak, including five two-hit games in a row a streak that ended on Tuesday. Romero began the streak on June 22nd, with a batting average of .256...his average is now .311 the fourth highest in the Carolina League.
Mills Streak A Season High - Beau Mills currently has a 12 game hitting streak going, his longest of the season. Mills also has a 25 game home hitting streak going (5/25- present), tied for the longest in the Carolina League this season. Mills has a 33 game home on base streak going (5/10 - present), the longest in the CL this season.
Awesome Alex - After a slump that included an 0-for-21 stretch, Alex Castillo has bounced back with his longest hit-streak of the season. He hit safely in six games in a row had a hit in each of the first five games of the six game homestand. he's played on this homestand. He was 8-for-23 with two home runs, five RBI's, and five runs scored.
Good Morning America in Kinston - A crew from Good Morning America will be shooting a story at Historic Grainger Stadium on Wednesday, July 30th to air on GMA Weekend in August.
