Campbell goes 2-for-4 with walk for New Hampshire

Manchester, NH- Brian Jeroloman drilled a mammoth two-run home run, and Scott Campbell went 2-for-4 with a walk, but the New Britain Rock Cats defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 15-3, Thursday night before 6,143 fans at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Following a two-out double by David Smith (1-for-4, 2B, R) in the bottom of the third inning, Jeroloman (1-for-1, HR, 3 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI) ripped a Jay Rainville offering over the access road in right field for his fifth home run of the season, giving New Hampshire (37-60) a 2-1 lead.

New Britain (41-56) would reclaim the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning against losing pitcher Jean Machi. Felix Molina (3-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB) lined a two-run double to centerfield, scoring Brock Peterson (0-for-3, RBI, 2 R, 2 BB), who walked, and Toby Gardenhire (3-for-4, 3 R, 2 BB), who singled. Dustin Martin drove in Molina with his third hit, a run-scoring single to center, giving the Rock Cats a 5-2 lead.

The Fisher Cats trimmed the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning against reliever Zach Ward when Jeroloman walked, advanced to third on a Jacob Butler (1-for-4) single and scored when Andrew Pinckney (1-for-3, BB) grounded into a double play.

New Britain added four more runs in the seventh inning against Jared Gothreaux on a three-run double by Danny Valencia (1-for-7, 2B, 3 RBI, R) and a sacrifice fly by Erik Lis (1-for-4, 2B, SF, BB, R) that built the lead to 9-3.

In the eighth inning, Martin (4-for-4, 2B, 3 BB, 2 R, RBI), who reached base safely in all seven plate appearances, drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk against Orlando Roman to give the Rock Cats a 10-3 lead.

New Britain poured it on with five more runs in the top of the ninth inning against Seth Overbey, highlighted by a Drew Butera (3-for-5, HR, 4 RBI) grand slam into the Poultry Products Dinner in the Den. Peterson added an RBI single.

Rainville (7-7) earned the win by pitching five innings, allowing two runs on five hits. The right-hander struck out four and walked three.

A franchise-record-tying seven New Hampshire pitchers issued a club-record 12 walks and yielded 20 hits. Machi (0-4) suffered the loss by giving up three runs on four hits and two walks in 1.2 innings.

The Fisher Cats send left-hander Ricky Romero (5-5, 5.61) to the Merchantsauto.com Stadium mound on Friday night at 7:05pm against Rock Cats' right-hander Anthony Swarzak (3-7, 5.99). Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.
