
Fisher Cats Starting Pitching Shines; Rock Cats Sweep Doubleheader

Manchester, NH- Julio Pinto allowed one earned run in 5 innings, but the Fisher Cats fell 3-2 in the nightcap of a doubleheader Sunday before 5,637 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Eric Lis hit a two-run home run off reliever Daryl Harang (3-2) in the top of the sixth inning which proved to be the game-winning hit as the Rock Cats swept a doubleheader from New Hampshire.
Pinto gave up a run in the top of the first inning. Dustin Martin doubled to start the game and went to third on a groundout. He scored on a fielders choice by Danny Valencia to put New Britain up 1-0.
The Fisher Cats (32-48) moved in front with two runs in bottom of the second inning against winning pitcher Jeff Manship. Kyle Phillips doubled and scored on a single by Ryan Klosterman to make it 2-1. Klosterman went to second on the throw and scored on a single by Scott Campbell.
New Britain (35-45) was trailing 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning when catcher Rodolfo Palacios singled off Harang. After Harang retired Dustin Martin and Brian Dinkelman, Lis hit his 9th home run of the season onto the access road beyond the right field fence to put the Rock Cats in front.
Manship allowed four hits and two earned runs in six innings, walking two and striking out eight. Ben Julianel earned his 15th save working around a single and a walk in the last of the seventh inning.
In the opener, New Britain blanked New Hampshire 1-0. The only run of the game scored in the top of the fourth inning. Brock Peterson walked, moved up on a ground out by David Winfree and scored on a single by Felix Molina.
Kyle Aselton (4-2) worked six shutout innings and allowed five hits. He did not walk anybody and struck out three. Ben Julianel pitched the seventh inning to earn his 14th save. New Hampshire loaded the bases with one out in the last of the seventh inning but Julianel struck out Scott Campbell and got Chris Gutierrez to pop out to end the game.
Robert Ray (3-1) saw his three-game win streak come to an end. He worked 6.1 innings, allowing eight hits, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.
The Fisher Cats open a five-game series at Connecticut on Monday night at 6:35pm. LHP Brett Cecil (3-1, 3.21) starts for New Hampshire against Connecticut RHP Nate Bump (2-3, 4.15). Live coverage with Mike Murphy can be heard on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network beginning at 6:15pm.
The Fisher Cats return home on Friday night, July 4, to open a series against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees Double A). New Hampshire will be celebrating Independence Day at by wearing red, white and blue as the New Hampshire Primaries. This will mark the second time in franchise history the Fisher Cats have 'turned back the clock' by playing as the Primaries, wearing specially-designed uniforms that reflect the original name of the franchise.
