West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - When the Whitecaps return home tonight for an eight-game homestand, fans will see a changed Whitecaps roster after two more 2008 draftees were added to the roster in an announcement today by the Whitecaps and Detroit Tigers. RHP Scott Green (3rd round pick) and RHP Thad Weber (16th round pick) will join the ‘Caps for the start of their homestand. West Michigan's roster now features five picks from the draft earlier this month.

To make room for the new players, LHP Matt Hoffman was sent to short-season Oneonta and RHP Brandon Hamilton heads to the GCL-Tigers in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League. Hamilton, rated as the Tigers 10th top prospect according to Baseball America, struggled in his first full-season assignment, going 0-5 with a 5.01 ERA in eight games and six starts. Hoffman pitched in five games (two starts) with an 0-2 record and 4.60 ERA.

Green, a 6'7, 240-pound righthander, pitched at the University of Kentucky for three seasons and posted a 6-4 record and 4.76 ERA in 20 games and eight starts this year. The Louisville, Ky., native was rated the 12th best prospect in college baseball by Baseball America heading into the 2008 season.

Weber, 6'2, 205-pound righthander from Seward, Neb., pitched two seasons at the University of Nebraska. He posted a 9-5 record with a 6.15 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 79.0 innings through 15 starts. Weber made his professional debut last week with the GCL-Tigers, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and no walks.
