New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Ryan Mullins fired eight brilliant innings and Erik Lis provided the offense as the Rock Cats downed Altoona, 5-1. Mullins (6-4, 3.23) limited the Curve to one run on five hits in eight innings. Frank Mata closed the door in the ninth in his first game with the Rock Cats this season. Altoona sent Josh Hill - a former Rock Cat - to the mound. The Rock Cats didn't welcome their former teammate very warmly. Hill (4-7, 4.20) allowed five runs (4ER) on six hits in five innings of work. He struck out five.

Steve Tolleson led off the bottom of the first with a double to left field and moved to third on a passed ball. Lis (3-for-4, 3 RBI) delivered a two-out single to left field to score Tolleson and put the Rock Cats on the board, 1-0.

The Rock Cats broke out a parade of doubles in the fourth inning. Brock Peterson and Lis started off the inning with back-to-back two-base hits. Lis' double to center field scored Peterson. Felix Molina tacked on two more runs with a double to left field to extend the lead, 4-0. In the fifth inning, Lis added another RBI double to score Peterson, who reached base on a walk. Jason Bowers had an RBI double in the sixth for Altoona.
