Chiefs Tie Kings in 9th, Win in 12th 4-2

Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs fell behind early but rallied for a 4-2 12-inning victory over the first-place Clinton LumberKings Friday night. The victory is the Chiefs fourth of the nine game road trip and moves then to 13-22 on the season Clinton led 2-1 heading into the ninth and left their starter Derek Holland on the mound for a shot at a complete game win. He retired Kyler Burke and struck out Jovan Rosa for the first two outs. But Dylan Johnston stepped up and launched a moon shot completely out of the ballpark to right-field to tie the game 2-2. The game stayed 2-2 into the 12th before the Chiefs struck against reliever Chris Dennis. With one out, Mario Mercedes floated a single into center. Elvis Lara reached on an error by second baseman Matt Lawson as Mercedes moved to second. Marwin Gonzalez gave the Chiefs their first lead of the game with a single into right. Mercedes scored on a close play at the plate and Lara came home when catcher Jose Felix threw the ball down the third base line. After an infield single, Dennis got out of the inning with the Chiefs up 4-2. With the game scoreless in the third, Clinton used a pair of doubles to take the lead against Chiefs starter Billy Muldowney. After a strikeout, Carlos Dominguez doubled to the wall in center for the first Clinton hit of the night. Muldowney racked up a second strikeout, but Engel Beltre put the LumberKings on top with a bloop double to left. Clinton added to their lead in the fifth by taking advantage of two Chiefs errors. With one out, Jose Made's throwing error allowed Beltre to reach at first base. Beltre stole second on a pitch in the dirt and scored on Renny Osuna's double to left for a 2-0 Clinton lead. The Chiefs cut the lead in half in the seventh. Rosa led off with his team leading 13th double and moved to third on a groundout by Johnston. Mercedes got the Chiefs on the board with an RBI groundout to second as Rosa scored. Muldowney allowed one earned run and four hits over five innings of work. The right-hander struck out three and walked two in his third no-decision. Blake Parker struck out four and walked two in 2 1/3 hitless innings of work. Dustin Sasser got out of a jam in the eighth and allowed just one hit over 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Vento (3-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings in which he allowed just one hit.
