
Dragons Win Again, Move into Tie for First Place

Beloit, Wisconsin-Jake Long collected four hits and drove in five runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 10-4 win over the Beloit Snappers on Monday night. The win was the Dragons sixth in their last seven games and improved their record to 7-4. They moved into a tie with Lansing for first place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.
Long drilled a two-run double to cap off a five-run top of the eighth inning as the Dragons broke a 4-4 tie. All five runs in the inning were unearned as the Dragons took advantage of two defensive miscues by the Snappers.
Keltavious Jones added three hits, a walk, and two stolen bases as part of a 12 hit Dragons attack.
The Dragons trailed 4-2 before Long's two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning tied the game.
In the eighth, Jones singled, stole second, and went to third on an error. After Todd Frazier walked with two outs, Brandon Waring lifted a fly ball to right field that was misplayed by Chris Parmelee for an error as Jones scored. One batter later, Denis Phipps looped a single to right that brought in two more runs, and Long followed with a line drive double to left to bring in two more and make it 9-4. Waring drove in a run in the ninth with an RBI single to close out the scoring.
Terrell Young pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Dayton to record his first win of the season after two losses.
Beloit's Greg Yersich connected on a two-run home run in the second inning to give the Snappers an early lead. Long's RBI single followed by a run-scoring double by Jake Kahaulelio in the fourth tied the game at 2-2. Beloit pulled back in front with one in the bottom of the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Dragons will meet the Snappers in the second game of the series on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. (EDT). Jamie Arneson (0-0, 5.63) will start for Dayton against Beloit's Michael McCardell (0-1, 1.93).
The Dragons open a six game homestand Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the Clinton Lumber Kings at Fifth Third Field.
Notes: The Dragons bullpen combined to work four and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. The bullpen has been scored upon in only one inning over the last seven games...Jeff Jeffords worked two scoreless innings and struck out five. He has struck out 17 batters in eight and two-thirds innings on the year.
